Case Study | Search Engine Market Analysis

We here at SEO Select, we take great pride in our prospecting process as far as determining which markets are worth going into, which markets will take a bit more time to rank in, and so on. Ranking in search engines and ultimately the coveted Google Map Pack is a process, but a lot of times can be achieved within a more than reasonable timeline.

When a client calls us and wants to get more calls and leads, the first and most rational step is always to determine search volume for the business's most desirable keyword(s). We will usually select a primary and secondary keyword to target when starting a project so as not to spread our efforts too thin, while weaving a plethora of other applicable and high buyer intent keywords for long term ranking purposes.

Most of the time, ranking for these two most desirable keywords, especially in a market of less than 100,000 population (such as in Concord, NC) can be achieved within a 3-6 month timeline, both in the search engines and the map pack. This does depend on how competitive the market is, and the higher average ticket price the market is, the more time can usually be expected for your business to rank locally.

Attached below is a basic market analysis video of a wedding venue market in a smaller city (around 30,000 population). This video provides useful information as a template for how to examine search engine results and how these affect your business's ranking in local map packs.

Just because your business might rank well for a keyword in the SERP (Search Engine Result Page) does not necessarily mean that it will rank in the top three of the Google Map Pack. There are plenty of factors that come into play other than just search results ranking, and local citations are generally regarded as the most important.

The most important aspect of local citations (your business's name address and phone number listed anywhere online or "NAP") is consistency. Google operates off of a complex ranking algorithm so if your business has lots of different information online, this will hurt your Google Business Profile's ranking potential in any market. The amount of citations in relation to your competitors and the consistency of these citations will help determine your placement as far as relevance to a specific search term.

We hope to provide thorough insight into our prospecting process with this video and educate you and your business on SEO practices and procedures.
